NB: you can only unlink your accounts a limited number of times. Select Continue when a confirmation message appears.
NB: if the option reads Not linked rather than Unlink, your Skype and Microsoft accounts are not linked, so you can skip ahead to Step 5.
Next to your Microsoft account, click Unlink. Scroll down to the bottom of the webpage and click Account settings under the My Account heading. Sign in to your Skype account at in a web browser. Whether you’re taking a technology detox or just trying to dodge that needy aunt on a more permanent basis, follow our guide to deleting Skype for good. So, a pretty important step to take in this case is to unlink the accounts to ensure you can still benefit from Microsoft’s other services once you’ve culled Skype from the lineup. This is an obvious inconvenience your Microsoft account may also be your key to the company’s other services, including, OneDrive, Xbox Live and so on. If you did, then closing your Skype account permanently will also delete its linked Microsoft account. The following table summarizes the different setups that you may have and the web client that is used.Before you embark on this liberating journey, an important distinction to make is whether you signed up for Skype with a Microsoft account or not. Users who have user accounts on-premises (whether they have a vanity URL or not) or are managed by Microsoft will see the Lync experience in the Outlook web app. As long as the user's account is online and doesn't have a vanity URL, they will still see the experience even if their organization has some user accounts that are homed on-premises. This basic client is available for Online users whose admin hasn't configured a vanity URL for their Microsoft 365 and Office 365. Outlook on the web (Outlook Web App) in Microsoft 365 or Office 365 offers a basic Skype for Business web client from the navigation bar. If you haven't upgraded your Skype for Business Online users yet, they will be automatically scheduled for an assisted upgrade. Skype for Business Online was retired on July 31, 2021.
